1. The Clothes Hanger Trick for Keys Locked in the Car.

If you have an older car with button locks, you can use a wire clothes hanger to get at keys locked in the car. First, straighten the hanger, then bend it to make a small hook at one end. Next, slide the hook into the narrow space between the window and the rubber molding. You should be able to hook it around the button and pull it up to release the lock. Of course, this method will only work to unlock a car door if you have access to a clothes hanger! If you’re at home or near a dry cleaner, you’ll have more luck with this method of getting at the locked keys in your car.

2. The Second Clothes Hanger Trick for Keys Locked in the Car.

This trick is useful if you’re trying to figure out how to unlock a car door by lifting the handle inside. The first step of how to unlock a car without keys is to straighten a wire hanger. Next, bend one end of the wire and make a loop that’s about as long as your longest finger. Secure the loop by wrapping the wire and stick the wire down into the car via one corner of a door.

So, to make space for the wire, use a rubber doorstop or an ice scraper to pry the corner of the door open just enough to let the wire fit through. Slide the loop end of the wire in through the space and move it down to the car door handle. The idea is to slip the loop over the door handle and move the wire downward, so it pulls the handle out, opening the lock. It’s hard to believe that something as simple as that can help you get locked keys in a car before calling the professionals at an unlock a car door service.

3. How to Open a Locked Car Door with a Windshield Wiper.

Did you know that a windshield wiper can help you get to keys locked in a car? Well, if your driver’s side window is open a few inches, this method can prove helpful. Detach one of the windshield wipers from your car. Take the windshield wiper, move it through the window opening until you can reach the lock on the door panel, and press it.

4. How to Unlock a Car Without Keys Using a Shoestring.

You can unlock a car door with some patience and a shoestring if your vehicle has button locks. Take one of your shoestrings and make a slip knot in it. (With this method, learning how to open a locked car door requires you to know how to make a slipknot.) Put a rubber doorstop under one edge of your driver’s door to create space for the shoestring. (As a note, carrying a rubber doorstop with you can be helpful when you encounter locked keys in a car.) Drop the loop end of the shoestring through the space and hook it around your button lock. Pull-on the string to tighten the slipknot and pull up. Now you know how to unlock a car door with something you have easy access to. Just look at your shoes! Sometimes you can figure out how to unlock a car without keys by being observant. Before calling in professional car door unlocking services, take a look at your car’s trunk. Sometimes it’s possible to enter your vehicle through your trunk in order to crawl through and unlock a car door from the inside.
